THCjd Will Get You High – But What Is It?

I’d thought I had seen it all.

With Delta 8, THCP, and THC-O. But no. There’s another star hitting the market in 2022.

THCjd.

Thought to be more potent than Delta 9 while also being a natural phytocannabinoid found in Hemp, it’s fast becoming of interest in states without legal recreational marijuana access.

Read on to learn more about the still little-known THCjd.

What Is THCjd?

THCjd stands for Δ9-THCjd.

It was discovered back in 2020 along with THCh, and now it’s gradually growing in popularity.

Why the THCjd hype? Because it packs a punch with unique psychedelic effects.

So far, scientists have identified around 113 different phytocannabinoids.

So what separates THCjd from other cannabinoids?

Its psychoactive potency!

THCjd is believed to be much stronger than D9-THC. More precisely, it falls somewhere in between regular THC and THCP.

Studies show that THCP (Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is up to 30 times more potent than Delta 9 THC!

Meanwhile, the potency of THCjd is (anecdotally) projected to about 18x – 19x higher than what THC has in store for us.

But with THCP, we do have available studies. This isn’t the case with THCjd. Its potency or health effects aren’t verified or studied by research yet. We don’t even know who exactly discovered the compound.

Is THCjd Natural?

Yes. THCjd is a phytocannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis plants. Unlike other recent cannabinoids hitting the market (THC-O, HHC), it’s not synthetic.

Although, that might be a stretch in today’s market. THCjd is only found in tiny amounts in cannabis, similar to Delta 8 THC. So, the Hemp-derived THCjd for sale is usually a result of cannabinoid conversion.

In some cases, cannabinoid conversions happen naturally. For instance, when you light up your joint, you are converting the non-psychoactive THCa into the psychoactive THC.

Also, CBD can convert into Delta 9 THC in certain extreme conditions (but not in humans).

Does THCjd Get You High?

Yes. THCjd can get you high.

In fact, It’s thought to be more potent than THC and could get you much higher than Delta 9 or 8 THC

How Does THCjd Work?

Each cannabinoid has a unique effect on the human body’s endogenous cannabinoid system.

The better we understand the different cannabinoids, the better we can shape and tailor cannabis use.

In other words, the new cannabinoids revolution is helping us gain better control of the desired effects.

Ultimately, THCjd is very new, and it’s a black box. There currently no published studies on THCjd or its effects.

We still have a very long way to go before we can truly understand exactly how THCjd works in the human body.

According to research published by Oxford Academic, there are 3 “primary barriers” that currently keep blocking cannabis research.

These are:

  • “the US regulatory status of cannabis and cannabinoids,
  • sources for cannabis and cannabinoid study medications, and
  • limited funding and resources to support studies”

Regardless of the obstacles that curb the cannabis science progress, we do know one thing for sure. The major difference between THC and THCjd is the length of the carbon chain.

How Strong Is THCjd?

The truth is, the science of cannabis can often feel like a mouthful.

But we have no other choice: we need to educate ourselves on cannabis, or else we’re simply teetering on being reckless.

I’ll keep things in this section simple and fun to digest.

Firstly, THCjd is a homolog of THC. “Homo” means “same.”

  • Homologs share the same functional group and similar chemical properties.

The functional group in a molecule is known to undergo the same or similar chemical reactions. This occurs regardless of the rest of the composition of the molecule.

So, you can picture homolog compounds as close family members sharing similar genes.

We can refer to THCjd as a cousin of Delta 9 THC.

Ultimately, “homologs” is a term describing compounds that belong to a series of compounds and only differ from each other by a repeating unit.

In the case of THCjd, the repeating unit is the carbon side chain.

It Has A 8-Carbon Side Chain

THCjd (Tetrahydrocannabioctyl) has an octyl chain. “Octa” means “eight”, or “having eight”. This refers to THCjd’s 8-carbon sidechain.

  • Both the size and the shape of the molecule impact the effects of cannabis.

As a comparison, THC, and CBD contain 5 carbon atoms attached to the alkyl side chain of the molecules.

Increasing the length of the carbon chain seems to vastly increase the potency of THC.

The addition to the alkyl side chain is like adding a rocket on THC potency, playing a crucial role in the way we experience the effects of cannabis.

Cannabinoids bind with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in our bodies exactly through this side chain.

You can picture it this way: what happens if you smoke a blunt of home grown compared to another containing indoor hydro?

That’s similar to the way THCjd influences us when compared to THC.

Simply put: it’s stronger. Much stronger.

THCjd In Combination With Other Cannabinoids

Right now, as THCjd is just hitting the market, you’ll most likely find it available in combination with other cannabinoids, such as Delta 8 THC.

Combining selected cannabinoids allows us to achieve particular highly desired effects.

Simultaneously, we can minimize the low tides with the high, like that notorious anxiety, for example.

Anecdotal reports on THCjd keep growing. Personally, I resonate so much with the following statement about THCjd:

“It’s like a solid Indica but also makes me really happy, I really like it at the end of the day.”

Most users describe the effects of THCjd products as very similar to THC.

Think of the waves of euphoria on the onset and deep calmness washing over the entire body as the high keeps creeping on.

THCjd Benefits

At this point, there is no reliable scientific data regarding the potential benefits of THCjd.

Yup, not even preclinical animal studies. This compound is still embraced in mystery.

On the one hand, that’s great news because it means we have so much more yet to learn.

Yet, on the other hand, it’s a bit of a bummer. Pretty much, there’s nothing concrete available yet, not a single study to verify what this cannabinoid is about.

All in all, we can proxy from data about other THC homologs and Delta 9 THC. But this at best is just an educated guess. So consume at your own risk.

THCjd Side Effects and Risks

What’s the biggest problem we’re facing when it comes to the possible risks and side effects of THCjd?

Third party lab testing standards for THCjd do not exist yet.

Moreover, it will definitely take some time before we have any reliable data and solid metrics about this compound.

We need to approach this compound carefully.

Ultimately, we have to make sure we limit the chances of consuming low-quality THCjd products. This is a big, fat must. We literally have no guarantee of what we put into our bodies.

Any 3rd party lab testing for potency is going to be looking at the graph of mass spectrometers and determining peaks from troughs.

While scientists can do this, it leaves the result open to interpretation.

Also, it often leaves us, the average ganja users, quite confused. It’s almost like trying to read a text in r any language that we do not really understand.

With the language barrier example, we at least have Google translate. But we don’t have any access to a cannabinoid lab test translating tool (*sigh*).

Important Note

If THCjd is produced from other cannabinoids, there is the additional risk of residual solvents, other cannabinoid compounds, or unknown byproducts.

Currently, lab tests for THCjd only measure potency level if they are available at all.

Then again, we can use data available on other THC homologs and Delta 9 THC to estimate the risks with THCjd. But this way, we’re only making a guess (at best).

The thing is, we don’t want any residual solvents entering our bodies, right?

Do keep in mind that when you opt for THCjd, you are consuming it at your own risk.

Yup. I know that the alluring THCjd product descriptions can make your mouth water long before you hit buy and try it out.

But remember to do your own due diligence. Consuming any THCjd product without a full certificate of analysis is risky.

Buying THCjd Products: Brand Reputation Is Key!

The least you can do before you hit that “Complete-My-Order” button?

Carefully research the brand’s reputation.

No, brand reputation alone is also not a guarantee about the quality of the THCjd products out there.

However, it’s definitely one of the most solid parameters to look up to in the absence of customer reviews and full third party testing results. Brands invest a lot of time, dedication, and thousands of dollars so that they can establish an excellent reputation.

That’s why when you’re buying products from well-established brands, you would expect that it limits the risk of low-quality THCjd products.

Is THCjd Legal?

Currently, THCjd falls under a gray area of the law, similar to Delta 8 THC.

Above all, THCjd is hemp-derived and it’s a phytocannabinoid, so it fits the 2018 Farm Bill requirements if the final product contains <0.3% D9-THC.

However, as the very wording of the 2018 Farm Bill is quite ambiguous, THCjd might be still regulated in your state.

Your best bet?

Always do your own due diligence!

Also, don’t forget that THCjd will show up on drug tests, as all THC homologs do.

Wrapping Up

In summary, THCjd is a new phytocannabinoid to hit the market, and we’re excited, woohoo!

But it’s not just hazy rainbows and flying unicorns all over the place. Do keep in mind that there are no reliable studies on THCjd yet including short or long-term effects.

Add in the fact that there are no unified lab testing standards, it’s the wild west out there.

So, if you’re going to buy it, make sure you stick to reputable vendors.
