What Is HHCp: Hydrogenated HHC

An intoxicating amount of alternative cannabinoid products hit corner stores and online retailers overnight. 

As welcome as these hemp-derived legal options are, it seems many of them might be gone just as soon as they came. States and counties are busy trying to pass legislation severely restricting or banning them altogether. 

HHCP is a unique cannabinoid because it is super potent and does not fall under the umbrella of current THC restrictions.

What Is HHCP

HHCP is a hydrogenated version of HHC. In its pure form, HHCP is a viscous oil. It is usually slightly yellow in color, although sometimes it can be a darker amber color. 

Overall, HHCP offers a more intense experience when compared to HHC, although this depends on user tolerance. 

It is exploding in popularity because state and federal agencies are quickly laying down laws and regulations banning Delta-8 THC products. But HHCP is not technically a compound of THC, so it currently isn’t being affected by these tightening restrictions.

To take it all the way back to the beginning, HHC was created in 1944 by an American chemist who added hydrogen molecules to Delta-9 THC. This process is called hydrogenation, and it is used for all kinds of alterations, like turning vegetable oil into margarine. 

After it was discovered that hydrogenation converts THC into HHC, scientists started trying to figure out how to convert other cannabinoids. The cannabinoid THCp was only discovered in 2019. So it didn’t take long for HHCP to be born from this discovery. 

It is different from HHC because it has two additional carbons on its alkyl chain. Studies have indicated that the increased length of the alkyl chain in THCp leads to increased bonding to cannabinoid receptors. It is believed that HHCP binds better to CB receptors as well, perhaps even better. 

Many accounts from people who have tried HHCP back up these suspicions. They report that the effects of HHCP are stronger than HHC and THCp.

How Strong Is The HHCP Cannabinoid?

A significant point of concern regarding HHCP, or any of the new alternative cannabinoids hitting the market, is that there are little to no studies that have been conducted on them and how they affect humans. This makes it hard to judge just how potent it might be. 

Since cannabinoids like HHCP are only now being discovered and consumed on a broad scale, there isn’t even good anecdotal evidence to go off of. 

But some alternative cannabinoids like THCp have a bit more studies to borrow information from.

THCp is thought to be significantly more potent than Delta-9 THC. A study conducted on mice showed that THCp was in fact 33 times more active at CB1 receptors than THC was. And it is thought that HHCP is also more active than other cannabinoids. Even more so than THCp.

HHCP Tried and Tested: My Thoughts

One other good source of information regarding how HHCP is affecting people is the reviews left by those who have tried it. Many customers say that they agree that HHCP is stronger than THC and much stronger than other alternative cannabinoids like THCp and HHC.  

In my experience, I’d have to partly agree. It is more potent than other alternative cannabinoids. But maybe not so powerful when compared directly to Delta-9 THC. 

From one heavy THC consumer to another, nothing beats the relaxing rush of some fresh, simple mary jane. To me, HHCP just doesn’t hit as hard as conventional THC. But for an alternative cannabinoid, I was surprised at just how similar my HHCP experience was. 

And compared to THCP and HHC, this cannabinoid understands the assignment and passes the test. A casual consumer or a newbie can definitely expect to get lit. In fact, I’d be worried about the possibility of getting completely roasted. 

HHCP may be more psychoactive than other cannabinoids. So if you overdo it, you may experience some side effects like anxiety, increased appetite, or sleepiness. 

But this wasn’t my experience at all. And chances are, if you ease into it, it won’t be your experience either. 

The HHCP I tried from Vivimu was incredibly smooth (both from a dab pen and added onto some CBD flower). It was lightly flavored with terpene notes. And the vapor was light. 

It provided fast-acting effects. After inhaling, I could feel the stress of the day melt away. As seconds ticked on my body and mind, I felt an impressive high. 

It is the most similar experience to Delta-9 THC that I have gotten from an alternative cannabinoid. Similar to THCP and HHC, HHCP affected me more in the head and less in the body. 

I felt a boost of energy that was great for socializing or doing something creative. And I didn’t notice the urge to gravitate towards the couch after, either. 

After trying it for myself, I’d have to agree this is one potent cannabinoid. The first time you try it, take it slow and increase your amount as necessary.

How To Use HHCP

As noted earlier, HHCP is a potent cannabinoid, and it is important to pay it the respect it deserves. 

Even seasoned veterans can be surprised if they consume it liberally. You might end up high as a kite on accident if you don’t take care when dosing HHCP. 

You only need to use a tiny bit at a time to feel good effects. A convenient way to handle HHCP is in a distillate syringe if you’re buying it as a concentrate. 

Squeezing out a small amount, you can make super potent edibles, oil, tinctures, or other DIY products. If you want to feel HHCPs strongest punch, then you will want to dab or vape it. 

If you decide to ingest your HHCP then you’ll want to mix it with a healthy fat (e.g. olive oil, MCT, avocado oil, etc) to increase its bioavailability and potency as much as possible. 

No matter how you choose to consume it, treat it the same as THCP and use a tiny amount. You can always take another dab later, but you can’t go back if you dab too much the first time.

It’s also worth noting that HHCP can affect things like blood pressure and heart rate. It is always a good idea to speak with your doctor to make sure you are safely trying new products. Keep in mind that the complete list of short and long-term effects of HHCP is still unknown.
